Washington: The United States has expressed satisfaction that various wings of the establishment in Pakistan are talking to each other to resolve the ongoing stalemate.
"We are pleased to see that the groups are talking to each other and trying to work through these issues," Victoria Nuland, State Department spokesperson told reporters.
Nuland reiterated that the US supports a civilian government in Pakistan.
"We support the civilian government. We want to see the issues settled through dialogue and within the Pakistani constitution," she said.
Responding to questions, Nuland said it would be helpful and important for Pakistan to be involved in the peace talks with the Taliban.
"We have been very open with them about this. In the past, they have made positive statements about reconciliation, including by participating in the Istanbul conference," she said.
"So at the moment, the issues that we are awaiting discussion with Pakistan about are issues separate from this. They have to do with the counterterrorism and military relationship," Nuland said.
