People now will need written permission from the administration to burst firecrackers in public places.
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has become the first state to issue a ban on firecrackers at public events following the Kollam temple fire tragedy in Kerala.
The UP government has banned the use of firecrackers for all public events. The ban comes into effect from April 21.
People now will need written permission from the administration to burst firecrackers in public places. They will need the permission letter and photo identification to buy firecrackers.
The ban is likely to be extended to the rest of the state.
The decision comes after a fire tragedy, caused by firecrackers, at Kollam's Puttingal Devi temple, claimed at least 111 lives.
