Voting rights must for skipper, coach
Raj Singh Dungarpur, the former pred=sident of the BCCI, has called for a greater say in team selection by the skipper and the coach.

Kolkata: Former BCCI chief Raj Singh Dungarpur, whose faction won in Tuesday's Board elections, stressed the need to give voting rights to the skipper and coach in the selection committee meetings.

"Captain and coach must be given voting rights. It is the coach who has a big role in making policy decisions and it is the captain who implements them on the ground. So they must have a decisive say in selection meetings," Dungarpur, a staunch supporter of newly-elected Board President Sharad Pawar, said.

Dungarpur also called for the appointment of a CEO to run the Board and said that he felt that after bringing in a CEO the board should make use of his expertise.

Asked whether it was the end of the Dalmiya era in BCCI, he said, "How can I forecast?"

However, Dungarpur did not agree with the view that Dalmiya had substantially contributed to Indian cricket saying "I don't know what he has done? Do you?"

On Greg Chappell he said that the coach has been doing an outstanding job and given exposure to all the 14-15 players in the squad.

He said that earlier established players in India used to take their place in the team for granted but Chappell had changed all that.

What's your reaction?
