THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF high-power committee meet held here on Wednesday did not take any decision on crucial issues like Anoop Jacob’s induction as a minister and the IUML demand for a fifth minister. IUML all- India president and Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed attended the meet. Minister P K Kunhalikutty and party general secretaries E T Mohammed Basheer and K P A Majeed represented the IUML team. They expressed their helplessness on the issue as leaders of constituent parties in the front remained attentive to their points. Asked what is the hitch in inducting Anoop as a minister, Thankachan replied that a convenient date of the Governor has to be available. However, he remained quiet on a query whether the Chief Minister had written to the Governor for a date. “The Neyyattinkara bypoll is expected in May. The seat belongs to the Congress. Whether there should be an own candidate or whether we should support an independent is the only question before us,” Thankachan replied to a query whether the UDF has decided to pitch tent for R Selvaraj, the CPM MLA who had quit his Assembly membership. “ Like winning the Piravom polls, the UDF will fight unitedly and come out shining,” he asserted.Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty maintained that both Anoop Jacob and the new minister of IUML will be sworn-in on the same day.“There is no dispute. The issue has to be brought to the consideration of the Congress High Command,” he said.
