West Bengal government to stop misuse of the beacons, hooters

Steps would be taken by the West Bengal government against misuse of beacons and hooters, which has also been directed by the Supreme Court. "We must stop misuse of red beacons and hooters by those who are not entitled to them. The Supreme Court also has a directive on the issue. We must follow it," Transport minister Madan Mitra said warning of strong steps against misuse.

"We have to identify those first who are entitled to use red beacons and hooters. Then we must prepare a list of those misusing them before taking a drive against them," Mitra said. Mitra also said that the government was also considering if VVIPs, who are entitled to red beacons, could use blue beacons instead.

"With the farewell to the red government, we should give a farewell to red beacons," the minister said.
