More than a decade after he came out of jail, Sanjay Dutt again faces the prospect on Tuesday.

Mumbai: More than a decade after he came out of jail after spending over 15 months behind bar for keeping an AK-56 rifle which was supplied to him by the accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt again faces the prospects of returning to the prison on Tuesday.

On November 28, the special TADA court in Mumbai had acquitted Dutt of conspiracy charge in connection with the Mumbai blasts but found him guilty of possessing illegal arms under the Arms Act. While the court is yet to pronounce the quantum of punishment for him, Dutt had been granted an extension in his bail period till December 19.

He needs to surrender to the court after midnight on Monday. While sources close to Dutt say the Bollywood star is likely to move the court again either on Monday of Tuesday for a further extension of his bail, he will be sent to the Arthur Road jail if the court rejects the application.

Dutt has already moved the court for leniency in the sentencing, pleading that he is the only earning member of the family and that he has already served about a year and a half in prison.

On Sunday, Dutt performed a yagna at the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai. The ritual was conducted by 15 priests. He is said to have spent about Ra 1.5 lakh in what has been described as "one of the difficult yagyas."

"It involves several rituals. The yagna is performed to bring peace to both the individual and his household," the chairman of the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust said about the ritual.

Dutt was picked up by the police on April 19, 1993, for keeping an AK-56 rifle, supplied to him by other accused in the serial blasts case. After spending 15 months in jail, he was granted bail by the Supreme Court on October 16, 1995, and released on October 18.
