TUMKUR: “Given the recent developments in state, the bypoll to Bellary rural assembly segment will be significant, as the Congress will look forward to its outcome,” observed KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar. He informed that the party will appeal to the Election Commission to conduct the bypoll in a free and fair manner and checking the misuse of power and money.Addressing the media here on Thursday, he said that the party will seek the people’s mandate on illegal mining and corruption in the state BJP. He, however, was quick to clarify the party will not consider its outcome as an indicator to polls in the future as people’s mandate in bypolls will be different from that in the general elections - as proved in the recent Tamil Nadu assembly polls.Parmeshwar added that the party lost the previous bypolls despite highlighting the failure of the government, as the BJP had misused government machinery and money power. He cited the Koppal bypoll as an example, which, in his opinion, was the “zenith of BJP’s misuse of power”.“The farmers’ protest inside Vidhana Soudha two days ago seeking proper prices for sugarcane was because of the government’s failure,” he detailed.
