Will Mukhtar Ansari’s Wife Afsa Attend His Last Rites? Cops to Keep an Eye Out for ‘Wanted Lady Don’

Will Afsa Ansari, the wife of Mukhtar Ansari who tops the UP Police’s list of ‘lady dons’ and is on the run, bid her final adieu to the gangster-politician at the burial ground on Friday?

Despite enforcing section 144, the UP Police has upped the security at the family’s ancestral graveyard in Ghazipur’s Mehmoodabad and have deployed cops in plain clothes to keep a close watch, if Afsa turns up. “We have made elaborate security arrangements in and around the graveyard. Also, we have deployed staff in plain clothes to keep a strict vigil on the movement of his absconding wife in the area and to avoid any law and order breach,” said Omveer Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ghazipur.

Ansari died of cardiac arrest at UP’s Banda Medical College on Thursday. “Ansari was brought from the Banda District Jail at 8.25pm after his health deteriorated. A team of nine doctors attended to him, but despite all efforts, he passed away following cardiac arrest,” stated the bulletin by the medical college.

ON THE RUN FOR A YEAR, CARRIES A REWARD OF Rs 75,000 ON HER HEAD

Afsa is wanted in multiple cases, including under the Gangster Act, and has been on the run for over a year now. Although the UP Police last year increased the cash reward on her head to Rs 75,000, it failed to bring success.

Afsa, who calls herself a homemaker, is wanted in three major cases, including two cases of land grabbing in Chhavni line and Babeddi locality lodged in 2019. On January 31, 2022, a case was registered against her at Mau’s Dakshin Tola Police Station under the Gangster Act.

Afsa’s family has also been linked to criminal activities in various districts of UP. Afsa’s brothers Atif Raza alias Sharjil Raza and Anwar Shahzad are reportedly absconding criminals. She has two sons — Abbas and Umar.

Afsa is perhaps the second ‘lady don’ after Shaista Parveen, who bears a cash reward (Rs 50,000) on her head. Shaista’s name surfaced among key conspirators in the sensational killings of lawyer Umesh Pal and his two police gunners in Prayagraj on February 24, 2023. Shaista’s husband Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were murdered in Prayagraj on April 15, 2023, while they were being taken for medical check-up. Shaista didn’t turn up to pay her last respects to Atiq as well as her son, Asad, who was killed in a police encounter last year.
