New Delhi: Kaizad Gustad is returning to direction after a long time with 'Jackpot'. The film features Naseeruddin Shah, Sachiin Joshi and Sunny Leone as characters that are expert con and reverse con artists. Kaizad Gustad have a long association with Naseeruddin Shah since their 'Bombay Boys' days, "I have done a homage to Naseer Bhai's character from 'Bombay Boys' and have tried to take it to the next level. This time he is crazier, funnier and more out of control. I would like to think that this is the craziest character Naseer Bhai has played in his entire career."
Gustad talks about his brand of cinema, "I love dark comedies, I have a very dark sense of humour. I hate slapsticks, I hate seeing somebody slip on a banana peel and go ha ha ha. We are constantly making fun of somebody or the other. Such things never interested me much. You will find my kind of humour in 'Jackpot', let's see how it works."
He adds, "I would rather do nothing than making the kind of cinema which I don't like. I will always have my thumb impression on my films."
Does that mean box-office doesn't matter for him? "Of course, it matters. Box-office is the most important thing for me."
Doesn't one need to compromise on style in order to suit the box-office? "No, why? My own style is very commercial. I find a lot of serious, art house cinema very boring. I have no qualms about being a part of the commercial set-up. I respect the guys who are making 100 crore movies because they are connecting with more people than others."
Isn't working with newcomers a tough deal? "Sachiin Joshi and Sunny Leone are not newcomers. They have already done some films. They are considerably younger than me whch means they have done more work than me as per their age. And, let's face it; Sunny Leone is already a star. The idea was to take her stardom to a new level. And as far as Naseeruddin Shah is concerned, I send him all my stuff anyway irrespective of the fact whether he is working in it or not. For him, it's only about the script, he doesn't care about anything else. Though lately he has been paired with Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit but how often do we see him opposite a younger actress!"
Sunny Leone echoed the same sentiments, "It was amazing, bahot mazaa aaya. On the very first day of shooting I walked up to him and said 'if you have any advice for me just tell me. Even if you want to say you are horrible just say it, I won't mind.' He just laughed at me. We learnt a lot from him. In any case my character was too scared of him."
The film is hitting the screens on Friday 13.
