Sangeeta Bora chases yesteryear sports stars to find out more about their expectations from Olympics 2012, London

Since it is a big team that we are sending, I am expecting the medals tally to increase. I am vouching for athletes participating in the 100 metres race. And of course,  I am looking forward to basketball

Nandini Basappa, former basketball player

I am super excited for the Olympics 2012. However, end of the day, it is all about medals. If the team works hard, things will definitely fall in India’s favour. As far as hockey is concerned, the boys look in good shape, be it on the field or off the filed, considering things were quite different two and half years ago. I am sure they will make us proud.”

Arjun Halappa, former hockey player

Olympics is every sportspersons’ dream and we wait for it every four years, eagerly. I am expecting Saina Nehwal to show some fireworks in London. I am hopeful that the shooters team will also bring some medals back home, along with the athletes.”

Chitra Magimairaj, former Billiards Champion

I am waiting eagerly for the 26th Olympics. It is the biggest sporting event, great expectations. Good to see that India has sent its largest contingent. Although the journey has been slow, we have reached some respectable position now, so it does not matter anymore. I am hoping that they win at least 5-6 medals in shooting, archery, and boxing.

Ashwini Nachappa, former athlete

Olympics is the gaming event that every sportspersons look forward to and for me the excitement is all the more this time as the Indian hockey team has qualified for the event after quite some time. It will be interesting to see how the team performs. Hope they do well. I am also looking forward to some action in lawn tennis and shooting.”
