Workshop on Hindustani music

KOCHI: A workshop on ‘Appreciating Hindustani Music’ will be held in Kochi from January 8 to 10. Mukul Kulkarni, a disciple of Arun Kashalkar, will conduct the workshop. The programme is organised by Musical Meet as part of the 150th anniversary celebration of State Bank of India Mattancherry Branch.The workshop will touch upon the various aspects of Hindustani music including its evolution, the concept of ragas, the thaat system, the concept of time cycle and the concept of gharana. There will also be sessions on various aspects of khayal such as aalaap, bandish, vaadi and samvaadi swar, sargam, taans and tarrana. The workshop is open to music lovers and students of music.
