New Delhi: Over 100 people are dead or missing in the devastating floods in Yemen.
The floods have been blamed on the heavy torrential rains.
Most of the casualties are from the eastern province after being hit by a tropical storm, say authorities in Sanaa.
More than 7000 people have been left homeless and refugees fleeing the affected areas are being airlifted.
The president of Yemen has asked for an emergency funding of US $100 million.
This is the most serious flooding in the region in decades.
Yemen is one of the poorest countries in the world and its government is already struggling against a rebellion in the north, unrest in the south and the al Qaeda resurgence, while a growing number of Somali refugees stretch its resources to the limit.
Situated on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, Yemen is prone to flooding during the monsoon season.
