Yemen sets date for presidential vote
President Ali Abdullah Saleh signed a US-backed Gulf Arab proposal under which he agreed to pass power to the vice president within 30 days.

Sanna: Yemen's official news agency says the vice president has called for a presidential vote to be held on February 21 in line with a power-sharing deal aimed at ending a nine-month political crisis.

President Ali Abdullah Saleh signed a US-backed Gulf Arab proposal earlier this week in the Saudi capital Riyadh under which he agreed to pass power to the vice president within 30 days and hold early presidential elections within 90 days.

SABA reported Saturday that Vice President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi issued a decree setting the date for the vote after Saleh authorized "the vice president the constitutional authorities to carry out dialogue with the parties that signed the Gulf initiative."

It says no party has the right to annul or change this decree.
