AUS VS SA World Cup 2023: Traffic Curbs in Place for Semi-final At Kolkata's Eden | Parking Details
The special traffic advisory mentioned that vehicle movement will be restricted around the stadium between 10:30 hours and 23:30 hours in order to ensure smooth flow of traffic

Ahead of the second World Cup semi-final between Australia and South Africa on Thursday at the Eden Gardens stadium, the Kolkata traffic police’s advisory to ensure smooth vehicular movement near the venue has come into force.

The traffic advisory stated that vehicle movement would be restricted around the stadium between 10:30 am and 11:30 pm in order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

Traffic diversions as well as parking restrictions were also stated in the traffic advisory that was released on October 20.

TRAFFIC DIVERSIONS:

  • Movement of all types of goods vehicles will be restricted/diverted from the roads or road stretches at and around Eden Gardens and the Maidan area on Thursday or till dispersal of the crowd in addition to normal restriction.
  • Movements of all types of goods vehicles will be restricted in and around Victoria Memorial Hall, i.e. Portion of AJC Bose Road between DL Khan Road to Cathedral Road, Hospital Road, Queensway, Cathedral Road, Casuarina Avenue and Lovers Lane.
  • Kshudiram Bose Road (Auckland Road), North Brooke Avenue and Gostha Pal Sarani (Kingsway) will be closed to all types of vehicles till 11:30 pm on Thursday.
  • Vehicles going towards the High Court will be diverted to move along Esplanade Row West, instead of Auckland Road and North Brooke Avenue, as and when considered necessary by traffic authorities.
  • Buses and mini buses coming from south Kolkata will be diverted from Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road) towards Netaji Statue Old Court House Street, and BB D Bag.
  • Buses and mini buses coming from SN Banerjee Road will be diverted towards R R Avenue, Govt Place East, Old Court House Street.
  • Motorists from south Kolkata may avail of AJC Bose Road, St. Georges Gate Road, and Strand Road and find access to the BBD Bag area through Kiran Sankar Roy Road towards Council House Street.
  • Howrah-bound buses and minibuses coming from South and South West Kolkata along DH Road, Khidderpore Bridge – Khidderpore Road will be diverted from Hastings crossing via St. Georges Gate Road – Strand Road.
  • Vehicular traffic may also be diverted from any of the arterial and feeder roads by traffic police.
  • To ensure uninterrupted flow of traffic, tram services, in the BBD Bag, Esplanade, Old Court House Street, BB Ganguly Street and Maidan areas will be regulated as and when considered necessary by the traffic police.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS:

As per the traffic advisory, parking of vehicles will be prohibited on both sides of the following roads as and when considered necessary by the police on duty:

  • Gostha Pal Sarani (Kingsway)
  • Kshudiram Bose Road (Auckland Road)
  • Government Place East
  • Rani Rashmoni Avenue
  • Old Court House Street
  • Indira Gandhi Sarani (Red Road)
  • Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road)
  • Dufferin Road

Police also said that no parking will be allowed for taxies, private buses, etc in view of the match.

Meanwhile, a spell of steady shower might disrupt the match at the City of Joy as per the weather bulletin. While there is a reserve day for all three knock-out games, the weather bulletin said that rain would only “intensify” on Friday.

The Eden boasts of a an excellent drainage system as the Cricket Association of Bengal curator Sujan Mukherjee hopes to make full use of it. In a conversation with news agency PTI, Mukherjee said, “We have an excellent drainage system and with a full ground cover we are confident of having the match on Thursday itself.”

The semifinal will be held on the same strip that was used for the England vs Pakistan last group phase match on Saturday. The match witnessed the highest score at Eden Gardens in this World Cup with England notching 337/9 before bowling out Pakistan for 244.
