Salman Khan attended the opening ceremony of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), joining celebrities such as Anil Kapoor, Mahesh Bhatt, Shatrughan Sinha, Sonakshi Sinha, Sourav Ganguly, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. However, this time around, both Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan who have been regular attendees of the prestigious film festival skipped the event. However, Mamta Banerjee acknowledged their absence and remembered the legendary actors.
The West Bengal CM delivered a keynote address at the inaugural session of the KIFF 2023, where she expressed her feelings on Amitabh Bachchan, SRK’s absence. She said, “I had a word with them though, Amit Ji is not keeping well. Shah Rukh Khan is busy with the promotion of his daughter’s movie.”
Mamta Banerjee also shared a message of peace. She said, “Bengal is not scared. We love India. We love Mumbai also. We love people from all religions and castes. We love our motherland. No one will be able to divide us. We are in favour of humanity.”
Mamata Banerjee caught everyone by surprise when she joined Salman Khan and fellow attendees on stage, shaking a leg to the tunes of this year’s film, which she conceptualised. Arijit Singh lent his voice to the song. In a video, Mamata can be seen dancing alongside Salman, Mahesh Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Sonakshi, and Shatrughan Sinha with Sourav Ganguly applauding by their side.
During the event, Sourav Ganguly took to stage and said, “Welcome to Kolkata, my favourite Mr Salman Khan. It’s a coincidence that I have met him for the first time here in person. In all these years, this is the first time I have met him in person and I said that when I saw him down that it’s unfortunate that we never met before.”
The Kolkata International Film Festival, starting today, is set to run until December 12, with the opening ceremony held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. Upon his arrival at the Kolkata airport, Salman Khan received a warm welcome from singer and politician Babul Supriyo. His schedule includes returning to Mumbai by Tuesday night.
