BTS's Label Hybe's Owner Earns Respect For Prioritising The Band's Mental Health Over Success
Bang Si Hyuk underscored the significance of artists prioritising their well-being over the relentless pursuit of success.

Bang Si Hyuk, the visionary founder of HYBE, a prominent player in the dynamic world of K-Pop entertainment, has garnered significant recognition and respect for his distinctive approach to artist management. His way of managing the artists working with his company HYBE, is particularly evident in his conscientious consideration of the mental well-being of the company’s flagship group, BTS. This approach has recently come under the limelight after the release of BTS’s documentary, BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star. The documentary shows an important scene from a meeting between Bang Si Hyuk and the BTS members.

In the much-talked-about clip, Bang Si Hyuk earnestly advised the young BTS idols to reflect on their achievements and consider whether pursuing even loftier aspirations might increase the risk of burnout, urging them to prioritise their mental health. They could “make bigger wishes since everything is going so well” or choose a different path. A path that didn’t make their “burnout” worse, he suggested.

Bang Si Hyuk also proposed an unconventional goal for the BTS in the upcoming year: the pursuit of happiness. Expressing genuine concern, he cautioned against the potential pitfalls of the relentless pursuit of success.

“I think our goal next year should be to find ways to be happy. It’s something that no other superstar in the world has ever done. I’m not sure if it’s something you can accomplish by trying. Not a lot of superstars have good endings. Many of them become depressed or develop social phobias. I’m really worried you’ll become unhappy if you continue to live like this,” he warned.

Bang Si Hyuk underscored the significance of artists prioritising their well-being over the relentless pursuit of success. He also pointed out that “At a certain point, it’s more important for an artist to have autonomy and be happy as a person.”

This sentiment was echoed by Jimin, who recounted an instance when Bang Si Hyuk offered the group a long break. He said, “Si Hyuk asked us if we wanted to just rest for six months.”

Despite BTS declining the break due to their perceived momentum in the industry, Bang Si Hyuk remained steadfast in his reminder for them to care for their mental and physical health, positing that their happiness held paramount importance.

This conscientious approach to artist management, where the emphasis shifts from unrelenting work to overall well-being has resonated deeply with fans, reports Koreaboo. The ARMY has a newfound respect for Bang Si Hyuk’s dedication to prioritising the health and happiness of the artists under HYBE’s banner. It has also distinguished him and HYBE in the eyes of admirers.

The ARMY might be aware that this generous approach aligns with the ethos of the globally acclaimed South Korean boy band, BTS, who have transcended the boundaries of musical stardom and have also become advocates for mental health awareness.

BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, have emerged not only as musical icons but as beacons of hope and support for their global fanbase. Beyond the allure of their music and captivating performances, BTS has fostered meaningful conversations about mental health, providing comfort and inspiration to millions. The members, in their candid openness, have often shared personal struggles with anxiety, depression, and self-doubt through interviews, songs, and social media platforms.

BTS Monuments: Beyond The Stars released on Disney Plus Hotstar on December 20. It follows the growth of the band from its beginnings to what they are today.
