Boney Kapoor to Mohammed Shami: Meet the Doctor Behind Successful Celebrity Hair Transplants
In a conversation with Dr Arika Bansal, we explore the success stories and unique challenges faced by celebrities in their journey to achieving a fuller head of hair.

Dr. Arika Bansal, renowned dermatologist and founder of Eugenix Hair Sciences, has become a trusted name for celebrity hair transplants. From Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor to cricketer Mohammed Shami, Dr. Bansal’s expertise has helped many high-profile clients restore their hair and confidence. In a conversation with her, we explore the success stories and unique challenges faced by celebrities in their journey to achieving a fuller head of hair.

Q. How many actors or celebrities have you treated?

Dr. Arika Bansal: We’ve had the privilege of treating several well-known personalities who have kindly shared their experiences with the public. For example, Boney Kapoor, a renowned Bollywood film producer, underwent a procedure with us for advanced baldness at the age of 67, achieving full coverage. Cricketer Mohammed Shami also had a successful procedure, which complemented his impressive performance at the World Cup. Other cricketers like Nikhil Chopra, Ravi Shastri, and Mohammed Azharuddin have also undergone treatments with us.

Q: Have any actors or celebrities experienced failed hair transplants?

Dr. Arika Bansal: While I wouldn’t label them as full failures, some actors continue to wear wigs or patches after their transplant. This can compromise both the transplanted and non-transplanted hair, leading to accelerated baldness. I’ve also encountered cases where the transplant didn’t look natural or dense enough, necessitating a redo to achieve the desired results.

Q: Can you name any celebrities who faced these challenges?

Dr. Arika Bansal: I’m afraid I can’t disclose specific names due to privacy concerns.

Q: What do most celebrities request when it comes to hair transplants?

Dr. Arika Bansal: Celebrities often request a procedure that allows them to keep their long hair, avoiding the need to trim it. For instance, Ravi Shastri had his transplant done with long hair, as he couldn’t afford to take time off. In cases like Anoop Jalota, who was previously wearing a wig, we managed to give him full coverage using a combination of beard and scalp hair due to his compromised donor area from previous failed procedures.

Q: Have any female celebrities sought hair transplant or restoration treatments from you?

Dr. Arika Bansal: Yes, we’ve treated several female celebrities. For example, Dr. Apratim Goel, a well-known dermatologist in Mumbai, underwent a hairline lowering procedure with us. She wasn’t balding but had a naturally high hairline, which we lowered by 1.5 to 2 centimeters, significantly enhancing her appearance. We’ve also treated actress Mandana Karimi, who received medical management and a slight increase in hair density at the front.

Q: How expensive are these treatments?

Dr. Arika Bansal: The cost of these treatments should be viewed as an investment since the results are long-lasting. The expense varies depending on the number of grafts needed. For smaller areas, it might be around one lakh, but for larger areas requiring more grafts, the cost can be higher.

Q: How long does it take to see the results of a hair transplant?

Dr. Arika Bansal: The procedure itself takes one to three days, depending on the area being treated. Full results are typically visible in eight to ten months, though you’ll start seeing partial growth as early as two months. A general rule of thumb is that at four months, you’ll see about 40% growth, at six months, 60%, and full results by eight to ten months.
