The scorching heat of the sun just doesn’t leave your skin dehydrated but also results in sunburns and sunstrokes as well. Sunburn is a common skin problem that occurs when the skin is exposed to excessive ultraviolet radiation from the sun. This also causes redness and peeling of the skin. In severe cases, it may even lead to skin cancer.

P Savitri, the Health Educator of Chittoor District, said to Local18 that sunstroke precautions, instruction, awareness and procedures are to be followed. She mentioned that there are several such precautionary tips to prevent sunburn.

While sun exposure is important for a healthy body and mind, you must know how to avoid sunburns.

As per the expert, one should not expose themselves to the sun’s rays and hot air. Additionally, one should also avoid cold-coloured drinks while travelling. On the other hand, contaminated street food should be avoided as the colours and substances used in the food are unhealthy.

Meanwhile, meat and alcohol consumption should also be avoided. P Savitri also said that heavy workload can also be avoided for a longer duration which will result in less burdening the body.

Additionally, the expert also suggested possible ways of curing sunburn as well. Firstly, one should always avoid the sun and stay in a shaded area. Try to wipe the body with a wet cloth dipped in cold water as many times as possible to keep the skin cool.

Additionally, consuming glucose can be included while having buttermilk with salt would benefit in hydrating the body.

Apart from this, people going out on a scorching sunny day should never forget to use sunscreen. Lips are often overlooked but are susceptible to sunburn. Apply lip balm with SPF protection to prevent sun damage. Using aloe vera gel can also be soothing and may help speed up the healing process. Wear protective clothing like lightweight long-sleeve shirts, pants, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses with UV protection to minimize skin exposure.
