Navratri and Durga Puja have finally started, and the whole country is busy with the preparations for these festivals. During the auspicious period, devotees not only engage in worship, but they also make sure to hand everyone a prasad, which is a very significant part of Goddess Durga’s reverence. In the town of Godda, which is located in the state of Jharkhand, a special type of sweet is made in every temple of the place, during the festival of Navratri. The sweet is known as Batasha. For the devotees, it is available at reasonable prices. Throughout the festival, the devotees offer Bel Patra and Adhul flowers to Goddess Durga along with the Batasha. According to Pandit Koshlesh Jha, one of the prominent members of a temple, it is a tradition to offer a batasha to the Goddess during the festival. These white sweets are not costly and are considered to be very pure. Any person, belonging to any class can get this sweet, which is why it is very high throughout Navratri, in the area.

Local18 also met a man named Raghu, who is an expert cook of the sweet. He detailed the making process of a Batasha. First, they make sugar syrup by using sugar, then it is rid of all the dirt, with the help of a chemical named hydra. It cleans the syrup thoroughly. After that, it is left open for about 3 to 4 minutes, so that it can cool down.

It is then transferred to spoon-sized bowls and is mixed with some flour. After some time, the small circles turn white in colour. According to shopkeeper Sonu Kumar, he makes around four to five quintals of Batasha during the Durga Puja. At his shop, 100 grams of batasha are sold for Rs 12.
