What is keeping Deepika Padukone away from the camera?

After giving a stunning performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat, Deepika Padukone will reportedly star in India's first female superhero film, to be inspired by Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Although an official announcement is still awaited, a report in Mumbai Mirror states that the movie is said to cost a whopping Rs 300 crore and is expected to go on floors sometime next year.

"Deepika's avatar is being fashioned after Gal Gadot's in Wonder Woman. The developments have been kept under wraps with a creative team holding discreet meetings with Deepika on a regular basis. Presently, a running bid is on for Rs 300 crore among multiple investors," a source was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.

The source also revealed that the actor would go through an extensive training process to prepare for her role.

"The 32-year-old-actress will begin training extensively in mixed martial arts and different styles of hand-to-hand combat. Since this is a first-of-its-kind mega project, the timelines for pre-production will be long and the project will go on the floors next year," the source added.

Earlier there had been a couple of reports doing the rounds that the actress had not signed any new project after Padmaavat "because of the lack of quality roles coming her way."
