Casting director turned actor, Paramvir Singh Cheema received immense popularity for his acting mettle in the musical crime thriller, Chamak. Now, the actor is gearing up for the second part of the Chamak web series. The first instalment was centred around a singer who visits India to avenge the death of his father.
In an interview with IANS, Paramvir Singh Cheema opened up about learning to sing for the show, how the whole shooting was done in just 102 days and how stepping into a character’s shoes was an experience for him as an actor. He further added that despite a professional singer giving voice to the character for his on-stage sequences in the show, he had to learn the art of singing which further taught him to train his throat muscles to make his act on the screen believable and authentic.
He said, “I got to learn a lot about music while preparing for my character in Chamak. I attended music classes. I used to be a bathroom singer, but having played the character, I gained a certain confidence to sing in front of people.”
While he picked up the craft of singing and training his vocal chords, he faced some challenges in playing the role because of the character’s dark past and no parental love. However, talking about the new season, there might be new developments in the story’s narration. He even dropped the hint that this time, Kaala will get support from the fans of Tara (played by Gippy Grewal).
He further indulged that at the end of the last season, his character, Kaala was taken to jail. The following season will show his attempts to come out of the jails. The audience will get a chance to see how Tara, Kaala’s father, was murdered on the stage while performing. Now, the late artists’s fan will shower their support to Kaala, who was initially backed by Dimpy.
Chamak is directed and co-created by Rohit Jugraj. It is currently streaming on SonyLIV, with 6 episodes. It features songs from different genres of music like Punjabi folk, fusion, Desi Hip-Hop, Rap, etc. The web series starred Paramvir Singh Cheema, Isha Talwar, Akasa Singh, Manoj Pahwa, Gippy Grewal, Mukesh Chhabra, Kunwar Grewal and Prince Kanwaljit Singh. Apart from them, it also included a few other artists like Sunidhi Chauhan, Mika Singh, Afsana Khan, Asees Kaur, and MC Square, among others.
