The much talked about Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial Padmaavat hit theatres on Thursday. The film, starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor, opened to mixed reactions with certain sections of the audience flocking theatres, while in other territories the film failed to secure a single show due to ongoing protests against the movie.
However, despite threats from violent fringe outfits, the film has managed to earn over Rs 24 crore in India, out of which Rs 5 crore were minted during the paid previews which were held a day before its theatrical release.
Interestingly, Padmaavat has become Ranveer's highest opening day grosser by surpassing the collections of his all earlier releases like Gunday, (Rs 16.12 cr), Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (Rs. 16 cr), Bajirao Mastani (Rs 12.80 cr), Dil Dhadkne Do (Rs 10.53 cr) and Befikre (Rs 10.36 cr).
While Padmaavat has taken off on a good note, now all that remains to be seen is whether or not the film releases in the other objecting markets in India.
