Deadpool & Wolverine Surpasses Barbie In Domestic Box Office Earnings
Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool & Wolverine now ranks as the seventh-highest-grossing film out of 31 releases worldwide and holds the fifth spot in domestic rankings.

In a blockbuster battle no one saw coming, Deadpool & Wolverine has officially leapt over Barbie to claim the No. 12 spot in all-time domestic box office rankings. Marvel Studios and Disney’s R-rated smash hit continues its unstoppable run, now surpassing Greta Gerwig’s pink powerhouse. The film reportedly raked in an additional $679,000 (Rs 5.7 crore) this weekend alone, thanks to Disney expanding the film’s theatre count from 990 locations to 1,500 nationwide. It’s a last hurrah before the curtain finally falls on Deadpool & Wolverine’s remarkable theatrical run.

As of Sunday, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led blockbuster reached a staggering $636.3 million (Rs 5,350 crores) at the domestic box office, narrowly surpassing Barbie, which sits at $636.2 million (Rs 5,348 crores). It’s a win for the R-rated film that has delighted audiences with its humour, explosive action and iconic characters.

While Deadpool & Wolverine has triumphed domestically, the global stage still sees Barbie leading the race. The family-friendly, PG-rated sensation has pulled in a jaw-dropping $1.446 (Rs 12,157 crore) worldwide, earning it the No. 15 spot in the all-time global box office rankings. Barbie’s appeal, with its clever comedy and fresh take on the beloved doll, resonated with a wide demographic, from nostalgic adults to younger viewers, informs The Hollywood Reporter (THR).

Meanwhile, Deadpool & Wolverine isn’t falling behind on a global scale either. The film holds the title of the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history, a distinction that cements its cultural impact. Last weekend, it even knocked Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi out of the top 20 global box office earners, with its worldwide total now reportedly standing at $1.336 billion (Rs 11,231 crore). This achievement adds to its growing list of milestones, and it’s safe to say the combination of Deadpool’s crude wit and Wolverine’s raw intensity has struck a chord with fans worldwide.

It doesn’t stop there. Deadpool & Wolverine has been a record-breaking phenomenon from the start, setting the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated movie with a jaw-dropping $211 million (Rs 1,773 crore). Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it now ranks as the seventh-highest-grossing film out of 31 releases worldwide and holds the fifth spot in domestic rankings. This achievement further underscores the film’s ability to draw massive crowds despite its adult-oriented content, proving that the superhero genre has room for both family-friendly fun and more mature, darker adventures.

So far, Deadpool & Wolverine ranks as the second-highest-grossing movie of 2024, just behind Pixar and Disney’s Inside Out 2. According to THR, the latter has grossed $652.9 million (Rs 5,488 crores) domestically and a massive $1.694 billion (Rs 1,42,410 crores) globally.
