Directed by Jacques Audiard, Emilia Perez features Selena Gomez alongside Karla Sofía Gascon and Zoe Saldana.

Selena Gomez-starrer Spanish-language musical crime-comedy Emilia Perez is all set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year. In the 2024 lineup, the festival confirmed the inclusion of the Jacques Audiard film, following which the singer-actress also made an announcement. On Instagram, Selena, while expressing her gratitude, shared a few first-look posters for the film, leaving fans surprised with her bold appearance. “I’ve been waiting to show you guys this one!! I’m beyond grateful Emilia Pérez, directed by Jacques Audiard, will premiere at @festivaldecannes in May!” Gomez wrote.

Speaking about the posters, the first one shows Selena rocking a bleached short hair style, standing in a dark room lit with colourful neon fixtures. She was dressed in a floral blazer that further accentuated her look.

The following character posters feature the singer’s co-stars, Karla Sofía Gascon and Zoe Saldana. While Karla, who plays the lead role, can be seen seated on the bed with her back towards the camera, Zoe Saldana also strikes a dynamic pose, dressed in a bright pantsuit.

Pathé Films, the film’s distributor also shared the news on X, which was later retweeted by the official X page of Cannes Film Festival. “#JacquesAudiard, returns to the cinema this year with #EmiliaPerez, a film carried by @zoesaldana, @karsiagascon, @selenagomez, @adrianapazz and @edgarramirez25. The film is in #SelectionOfficielle in #Compétition to @Festival_Cannes 2024. In theatres August 28. #Cannes2024,” Pathé Films wrote on X.

According to the film’s official synopsis, it states, “Mexico, today. Lawyer Rita receives an unexpected offer. She has to help a feared cartel boss retire from his business and disappear forever by becoming the woman he’s always dreamed of.”

Alongside the Selena Gomez starrer, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things featuring Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe, Paul Schrader’s Oh Canada starring Richard Gere, Paolo Sorrentino’s Parthenope, and Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley will also be screened at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Selena Gomez’s other projects

While Emilia Pérez is the latest in her kitty, Selena Gomez is also currently busy with the shooting of the fourth season of the Hulu crime-comedy series Only Murders in the Building. The singer-actress stars alongside Martin Short and Steve Martin.

As Gomez gets more busy with her acting ventures, fans have been left wondering about whether the Single Soon singer is stepping away from music. In a recent podcast, Selena Gomez, while mentioning that her “plate is full,” said, “I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting. I can do both (music and acting), but I am going to want to chill because I’m tired.”
