Gurucharan Singh has opened up on his Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s co-star Jennifer Mistry’s sexual harassment case against Asit Kumarr Modi. In a recent interview, Singh talked about his recent separate meetings with Mistry and Modi. He revealed that he tried to sort out the differences between the two but decided not to interfere after a point.
“Main iss baare mein do baatein bolunga. Main Jennifer ji se mila tha, unse kaafi baat hui. Main Asit bhai ke paas bhi jaata tha kyuki woh mere kuch cheezein unse thi… Maine ya koshish ki thi ki un dono ki mulakat ho jaaye. Ye maine 100 percent koshish ki thi. Kuch aisa ho gaya tha ki lag raha tha ki mere pe koi baat na ho jaaye iss cheez pe. Kyuki kabhi kabhi jo help karne jaata hai na woh bekasur se kasurwaan ho jaata hain. Maine ye try kiya tha ki dono ki mulakat ho baith ke usko sort out kare (I will say two things about this. I met Jennifer and talked to her. I met Asit also for some things. I had tried to set up a meeting between them. It came to a point where I felt that what if I am dragged into the mud in their matter? I wanted them to sort out the matter),” Gurucharan told Siddharth Kannan.
Gurucharan Singh and Jennifer Mistry used to play the roles of Mr and Mrs Roshan Sodhi in TMKOC. When Singh left the show in 2013, Mistry quit in 2023. After leaving the show, Jennifer filed a complaint against Asit Kumarr Modi, the show’s Project Head Sohail Ramani and executive producer Jatin Bajaj for alleged sexual harassment at the workplace.
The three were booked under sections 354 and 509 (Assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In February this year, Jennifer won the case against Asit Modi. Announcing the verdict in favour of the actress, the court ordered Asit Kumarr Modi to clear her outstanding dues and further asked him to pay her Rs 5 lakh as compensation. However, no punishment was given to Sohail Ramani and Jatin Bajaj.
However, Jennifer further expressed disappointment with the verdict and argued that Rs 5 lakh “can not be the amount to be paid for causing mental trauma to a person for one entire year.”
