Henry Cavill Set To Star In Voltron, Inspired By The Classic Animated Series
Henry Cavill will star alongside newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye in the Voltron movie, based on the 1984 show, Defender of the Universe.

Henry Cavill is venturing into a diverse range of projects after parting ways with DC Studios, where he portrayed Superman. Recently, he made an appearance as a variant of Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine. Now, the actor is gearing up to star in the first-ever live-action Voltron movie, produced by Amazon MGM Studios. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill will share the screen with newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye in this highly anticipated adaptation. While details about Cavill’s character remain under wraps, the film will draw inspiration from the animated series, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which first premiered in 1984. Reports indicate that Cavill is set to commence filming for the project later this year in Australia.

The movie will be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, known for his work on Red Notice, which starred Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson. Reports indicate that the upcoming Voltron film draws inspiration from the Japanese sci-fi series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV, both of which were adapted into Voltron: Defender of the Universe for English audiences. The story follows five young pilots who command powerful vehicles known as Robot Lions, which can unite to form a colossal robot called Voltron.

Meanwhile, ComicBook.com suggests that Henry Cavill may not be one of the five teenage pilots in the Voltron movie. Instead, he is likely to portray the main villain, Emperor Zarkon. In the original series, the main characters included Princess Allura, Keith, Pidge, Lance, Hunk, and Sven. Both versions of the show, Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV, featured powerful antagonists, Lotor and Zarkon. The show was relaunched in 2016 on Netflix under the title Voltron: Legendary Defender.

Before landing a role in Voltron, Henry Cavill showcased his talents in two action thrillers this year: Argyle and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. He also surprised fans with a cameo in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine. Cavill is set to reunite with Ritchie for the upcoming film In the Grey, where he will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González. Additionally, he is involved in the Highlander reboot and is producing the Warhammer 40,000 franchise.
