Veteran actor Pankaj Kapur, who directed the 2011 film Mausam starring his son Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, recently opened up about why he hasn’t helmed another project since then. In a conversation with India Today, he mentioned that his temperament is more of an actor.
The portal quoted the actor cum director saying, “Mausam is the only film I wrote and directed. Having said that, I do have scripts, but I cannot go from door-to-door selling them. I do not have that temperament. My temperament is more of an actor. I mean, I don’t mind if somebody comes to me and says do you have a script? Can I hear something? I’m ready to narrate it and if the person says yes, I like what you have written, I am ready to go ahead and direct the film. It’s not that I don’t like directing. I love directing, but I cannot struggle to make a film. So, after ‘Mausam’, I decided to be more of an actor, and when an opportunity arises, I will direct.”
Pankaj Kapur is currently busy promoting his movie Binny and Family, which also stars Varun Dhawan’s niece, Anjini Dhawan. The film delves into family issues, lack of communication, and generational gaps. In an interview, Pankaj Kapur spoke about bridging the communication gap between his three children, Shahid Kapoor, Sanah Kapoor, and Ruhaan Kapoor.
Bollywood Hungama asked Pankaj whether generation gap was an issue, to which the actor said, “I don’t think like that because thoda bahut odd age mein bachcha toh aata hi hai, toh aapko yaad karna chahiye ki aap bhi isi tarah ki umar se guzare hain aur aapka daur kis tarah ka tha…So you are open about it (A child goes through a phase of being at a different age, you should recall that you, too, went through the same age, and what was your phase like?)”
Pankaj was also seen in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack along with Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza and others. The six-episode Netflix series is based on Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury’s book Flight into Fear: A Captain’s Story.
