Meanwhile, a source close to the film told Bollywood Hungama that it is being made on a whopping budget of Rs 835 crore. “Ramayana is not just a film but an emotion and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a global spectacle. The USD 100 Million ( ₹835 crore) budget is just for Ramayana: Part One. He (Namit Malhotra) plans to expand this further as the franchise grows. The idea is to take the audience on a visual treat with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram,” the source said.

The insider further argued that Ramayana needs at least 600 days of post-production work and with this movie, the makers plan to take Indian Cinema at a global level.

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana will see Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi as Ram and Sita respectively. The film is also likely to star Yash as Ravana. The actor is also co-producing the movie. “It has been my long-term aspiration to make films that will showcase Indian cinema on a global level. In pursuit of that, I was in L.A. to ally with one of the best VFX studios, and to my amazement, the driving force behind it was a fellow Indian. Namit and I had various ideation sessions, and coincidentally, our synergy on the vision for Indian cinema aligned perfectly. We brainstormed various projects, and during these discussions, the subject of ‘Ramayana’ came up. Namit had a part of it in the works,” Yash told Variety in April this year but did not mention anything about his role.

Ramayana will also star Arun Govil and Lara Dutta in key roles. Reportedly, the makers have also roped in Sunny Deol for the role of Hanuman. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this as of now.
