Universal Music India, a division of Universal Music Group, has collaborated with Ricky Kej, the acclaimed UN goodwill ambassador and Grammy winner, for its new music label, Vedam Records. This label is dedicated to wellness music. Ricky, known for his ability to bridge cultures and inspire through his art, is leading the charge for this new venture.
Ricky’s new endeavour with Vedam Records has arrived with the release of Break Of Dawn, an album deeply rooted in the ancient Indian musical heritage of the Vedas. Each track on the album is designed to uplift and heal, drawing inspiration from the melodies and chants from the Samaveda, one of India’s sacred texts. The release marks the beginning of Vedam Records’ commitment to integrating Indian Vedic Wellness Systems (IVWS) into their music, focusing on categories like yoga, meditation, focus, sleep and chakra balancing.
Reports suggest that Kej, in a statement, emphasised the transformative power of music in his latest project. “For me, Vedam Records presents an opportunity to compose music that is therapeutic and necessary – now, more than ever. I am crafting music that is not just a listening experience – but an introspective sonic journey, filled with joy. Every song in Break of Dawn is such a unique journey that I feel will touch listeners at a deeper and more emotional level. Devraj also expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Ricky, noting, “We are also thrilled to collaborate with Ricky Kej, three-time Grammy winner and one of the most acclaimed and respected Indian musicians today, to help bring the label to life.” He shared that the mission behind Vedam Records is “to release powerful music from India, created for the world to support better mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.”
Ricky, a distinguished musician, has won three Grammy Awards. He won first in 2015 for Winds of Samsara, which debuted No. 1 on the US Billboard New Age Albums Chart. He won again in 2022 for Divine Tides, a collaboration with Stewart Copeland, in Best New Age Album category. The same album won him his third Grammy in 2023 in the category of Best Immersive Audio Album. In October the same year, Ricky was appointed as UN Goodwill Ambassador.
