Doctor Doom actor Robert Downey Jr’s fees for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars has allegedly been revealed. The actor confirmed that he will go from playing Iron Man to essaying the Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom in Marvel Cinematic Universe. The news was shared during the Marvel panel in the Hall H of San Diego Comic-Con. Following his MCU return, a report has claimed that the Oscar-winning actor is charging $80 million (Rs 6,69,83,52,000 INR) for the films.
A source told Variety that while the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, have been roped in to direct the Avengers films in return of a paycheck of $80 million, RDJ is charging “significantly more” than that to play Doctor Doom. The report added that the deal with the Russos does not include ‘back-end compensation, but it does contain performance escalators that kick in at the $750 million and $1 billion thresholds.’ The directors will also be co-producing the Avengers films.
On the other hand, Robert Downey Jr is allegedly getting a few perks besides his massive pay. “His deal also is filled with perks that include private jet travel, dedicated security and a whole ‘trailer encampment,'” the report claimed.
Robert Downey Jr announced his retirement from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019, following the release of Avengers: Endgame. The fandom mourned his exit. So it came as a massive shock to everyone that RDJ agreed to make a comeback. Turns out, he placed one condition on Marvel Studios’ table before he agreed to return to the MCU. The Oppenheimer star allegedly asked that Russo Brothers direct the films he will be seen in.
Source close to RDJ told the international publication that the actor ‘agreed to return to the MCU if the Russos would be directing.’ The insider said, “They were the only ones he would work with.”
Both the Avengers movies will be shot in London. The filming is likely to kickstart in the second quarter of 2025. Avengers: Doomsday is set to release in May 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is eyeing a May 2027 release.
