Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fame actor Gurucharan Singh aka Doshi has been missing for almost a week now. While cops are investigating the case, several social media users recently argued that the actor was probably depressed. In a recent interview with Indian Express, Singh’s on-screen son, Gogi aka Samay Shah, shared that he didn’t think it was the case.
Samay Shah recalled talking to Gurucharan Singh around 4 months back and shared, “I spoke with him 4 to 5 months back over the phone. The conversation went on for an hour or more and he kept motivating me, we spoke about running with dreams. I was missing him a lot, especially as we were not working together anymore and we were reminiscing.”
Gurucharan’s on-screen son then opened up about the claims that the former TMKOC actor was depressed and added, “He was happy when we spoke. I still cannot believe that people are saying he was depressed. He is not that kind of a person, but then you cannot predict how human consciousness works sometimes. Whenever we spoke, he was very kind and sweet, he was keeping alright, and he would continuously check on me. I don’t think he was in depression. However, we never had the kind of conversations he would have with his parents or friends. I was like a son to him.”
Samay Shah then revealed that Gurucharan Singh was working on a Punjabi movie and hoped the actor would return soon. “I was both excited and curious to know what he is up to. I am not sure, but the movie was called GCS. I think he was also working on an app. I think he will be back very soon,” he said.
Last week, Gurucharan’s father filed a missing complaint which read, “My son Gurucharan Singh, Age: 50 years, had left at 8:30 am on 22nd April to go to Mumbai. He went to the airport to catch a flight. He didn’t reach Mumbai, neither has he returned home and his phone is not reachable. He is mentally stable and we had been searching for him but now he has been missing.”
Later, News18 Showsha exclusively reported that Gurucharan’s missing complaint had been filed in the Palam area of New Delhi. We learnt that Police officials are investigating the case and trying to trace the actor’s call records. “Missing complaint was filed around 4 days back in Palam, South Delhi. Based on this, police are investigating the case. No FIR has been filed as of now. All investigation is being done based on the missing complaint,” a police source told us.
Gurcharan Singh played the role of Roshan Singh Sodhi — a fun-loving man who is always in party mode and never shies away from expressing love for his wife. He was one of the popular characters on the show, and also a founding cast member. Gurcharan, however, left the show in 2013 only to return next year due to public demand. After his exit in 2020, he was replaced by actor Balwinder Singh Suri.
