Producer Vashu Bhagnani has landed in yet another controversy. The filmmaker, who has been accused of non-payment from Bade Miyan Chote Miyan director Ali Abbas Zafar, recently accused Netflix India of ‘cheating’ him. The head of Pooja Entertainment claimed that the he has not received Rs 47.37 crore. However, Netflix has denied the claims and said that it is Vashu who owes the platform money.
Vashu Bhagnani’s Claims Against Netflix:
Speaking with Economic Times, Vashu Bhagnani claimed that the OTT platform ‘cheated and conspired against the rights’ of his recent three films. The films are said to about the rights of Hero No 1, Mission Raniganj and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. He filed a complaint against Los Gatos Production Services India, through which Netflix reports its content investments in India, Zoo Digital India and several executives of both companies. The

Netflix Denies Vashu Bhagnani’s Claims
In a statement to the press, a Netflix representative said that it is Netflix who owes them money. “These claims are completely unfounded. Indeed, it’s Pooja Entertainment that owes Netflix money. We have a strong track record of partnership with the Indian creative community and are working with the authorities to resolve this dispute,” Netflix spokesperson said.
A source also told us that a civil dispute has been registered by Netflix against Pooja Entertainment for non-payment.
Vashu Bhagnani has been making the headlines for the wrong reasons this year. After the failure of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, the crew of the film accused him of not paying their dues. Earlier this month, the film’s director also came forward to claim that the producer has not paid him his fees, Rs 7.30 crores. In return, Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani of Pooja Entertainment have filed a complaint against filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar for allegedly siphoning the subsidy funds he took from Abu Dhabi authorities during the shoot of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
In their complaint, Bhagnanis alleged fraud of Rs 9.50 crore by Ali Abbas Zafar and accused him of “coercion, criminal breach of trust, extortion, blackmailing, criminal intimidation, harassment, criminal defamation and money laundering”. The complaint further alleged that Zafar used these funds via a shell company in Abu Dhabi.
