When Akshay Kumar Battled 'Heavy Covid': 'I Lost Quite A Lot Of My Strength And Stamina' | Throwback

Akshay Kumar, known for his hard work and discipline, has been busy promoting his new film Sarfira, which came out today. Fans were hoping to see him attending Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s grand wedding after Anant invited him personally, but Akshay won’t be there because he has tested positive for COVID-19.
In 2023, Akshay had mentioned that he was battling ‘heavy Covid’ a few years before that and was still regaining his strength before a world tour of live shows. In an interview with Connect FM Canada, he had discussed his efforts to regain stamina. “Some years ago, I got Covid. It was heavy Covid, and because of that, I lost quite a lot of my strength and stamina. I’ve been shooting, but you don’t really need a lot of stamina to shoot. You need to be strong, but you don’t need stamina, because shots are constructed in bits and pieces. When I got to know that I’m doing this show, I took it as a challenge, because then, I will have to start working on my stamina. To perform for 35-40 minutes continuously, you require a lot of stamina. I’m still working on it, I hope I can achieve what I want,” he had shared in Hindi.
In April 2021, Akshay got Covid and was admitted to the hospital. He tested positive for the virus again in 2022, right before he was supposed to go to France for the Cannes Film Festival.
Meanwhile, News18 Showsha gave his latest release, Sarfira, a positive review and 4.5 stars rating. “Sarfira is a rather beautiful coming together of two schools of cinema – one that makes you whistle and clap and still silently appreciate its nuanced storytelling. It’s tear-jerking, inspiring, gratifying, wholesome and so much more. And it will most definitely help if you don’t let the extraordinary Soorarai Pottru colour your opinions. Watch Sarfira with a clear mind and a clean palette and you will come out feeling all kinds of good emotions,” the review reads.
