On Monday, Vishesh films has issued a legal statement with regards to one of the most celebrated franchises ‘Aashiqui’. In September last year, they had announced Aashiqui 3 with Kartik Aaryan in the lead. And now, the makers have issued a public notice warning everyone to not trust any ‘individuals and companies’ making claims about the movie.
Taking to their official Instagram handle, the team issued a notice that read, “The public in general and the entertainment industry in particular are hereby requested to take note that Vishesh Films Private Limited is the producer and joint rightful owner of the intellectual property rights and derivative rights associated with the franchise titled ‘AASHIQUI, including but not limited to the films ‘Aashiqui’ and ‘Aashiqui 2’ (hereinafter referred to as the “Franchise”).
Thus, it is imperative to note that any communications, engagements, or commitments related to the production or distribution, or marketing of prequel, sequel or any derivative works under the Franchise made without our involvement or presence are not only unauthorized but are also fraudulent. Such actions, lacking the sanctioned participation by us, are and shall be regarded as invalid and void. The general public, along with all relevant entities and individuals, are strongly warned to take note of the same.
Please be aware that any violations or transgressions of this notice (whether in past, present, and future) may result in legal ramifications including our right to claim damages at the cost and consequences of the defaulter, which the defaulter may please note. This notice seeks to safeguard the integrity of our rights associated with the films and or Franchise and to preclude any potential misrepresentations or disputes. We appreciate your understanding and co-operation in respecting the ownership and rights concerning the films and/or Franchise.”
An official statement from Vishesh Films read, “It has come to our notice that a campaign of misrepresentation and misinformation is being carried out by individuals, groups and organisations making unsubstantiated claims on behalf of our company or our franchise, Aashiqui. Vishesh Films is known to have a strong brand of launching young talent and protecting their interests and want to prevent them from becoming victims to third parties unknowingly. Hence, in public interest and being a responsible legacy studio and production house we issued the public notice to protect and make individuals and companies aware to not trust anything that is not directly or officially from Vishesh Films and treat them as false claims.” There is no clarity as to who this is aimed at.
Coming back to Aashiqui 3, the film stars Kartik Aryan in the lead role. The leading lady for the film is yet to be decided. The movie will be helmed by Anurag Basu and is being produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt.
The original Aashiqui film which released back in 1990 starred Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal. In 2013, the second part of the film was released which starred Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor.
