Karan Johar Felt Like He Was Going to Have 'Cardiac Arrest' in July: 'My Body Was Shivering And...'

Karan Johar admitted he felt like he was going to have a ‘cardiac arrest’ in July. The filmmaker was preparing for the release of his film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani at the time. Karan was returning to the director’s seat after seven years. It was also his first film after the trolling and criticism he was subjected to in the past three years. In a new interview, Karan said that he was so anxious about the Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh starrer’s release that it began taking a toll on him physically.

Speaking on Pinkvilla Masterclass, Karan admitted he was under massive stress regarding RRKPK’s release and had anxiety built up within him. “I was very stressed. I thought I was going to have a cardiac arrest. The week before and the days following that, I don’t think anyone, anyone who knows me closely will know that. By stressed, I mean physically, like my body was shivering and shaking,” Karan said.

“I felt I really seeked validation with this film. I mean it was a 7 year gap and a 3 year tough time. You know, with the trolling, the anxiety had built… There was a lot of negativity that surrounded me personally, as well as the industry. It wasn’t easy for me or my mom (Hiroo Johar). It was a tough time for us as a family where we had to combat. I don’t feel like I should put so much focus on success in general. But this time I felt I didn’t need the success as much as I needed validation that I am still a relevant filmmaker that can talk to an audience today,” he admitted.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani opened to positive reviews and performed well at the box office. As per Bollywood Hungama, the film collected Rs 153.60 cr in India.
