Fans are always excited and curious to know about the personal lives of their favourite idols. They form deep connections with these celebrities and often view them as more than just entertainers. Learning about their favourite idol’s personal life can feel like getting a glimpse into their world, creating a sense of intimacy and connection. For the fans of the Sino-Korean boy band UNIQ’s member, Sungjoo, this curiosity has finally ended as the K-pop idol has clarified his marital status and details of his family life. Sungjoo had recently been grabbing headlines for the secrecy around his personal life.
There had been online speculations about him being married and having a child for a long time that peaked last month on his birthday. The singer has now acknowledged that he is indeed married and has a son, ending swirling rumours that began after a live broadcast.
In the broadcast, Sungjoo, 27, played an audio message from his fellow UNIQ member Wenhan, who inquired about Sungjoo’s son, suggesting that Sungjoo should have his son come and hug his uncle. Fans heard Wenhan asking, “Is your son sleeping right now? Tell him to quickly come and hug his uncle.”
Sungjoo abruptly ended the broadcast after playing the message, sparking curiosity about his marital status among fans and media.
On March 2, Sungjoo reportedly addressed the rumours directly, expressing regret for not disclosing his family situation sooner. He apologised to his fans for the surprise and explained that he had wanted to share the news earlier but had to be cautious.
Sungjoo’s full statement, as reported by Soompi, reads as follows:
“Hello, this is Kim Sungjoo. I apologise for having recently surprised many people with the sudden news on online communities and social media, as well as for not having been able to present myself honestly. Although I wanted to quickly convey the news to the fans who always give me their support and love, I was unable to tell you because it was a situation where I was being cautious. Even though I’m late, I’m telling you [this] honestly, and I will walk beautifully forward into the future with my precious family as a diligent father and husband. Thank you.”
UNIQ is a five-member group that includes members Seungyoun, Yibo, Yixuan, Wenhan, and Sungjoo. Seungyoun has recently moved to Idam Entertainment after his exclusive contract with Yuehua Entertainment ended. He now works as a solo artist under the stage name WOODZ.
