When Rohit Shetty Wanted Honey Singh To Change This Word In Lungi Dance
Rohit Shetty wanted Lungi Dance from the 2013 film Chennai Express to become more family-friendly.

Rohit Shetty is one of the most successful directors in Bollywood. He is known for his action comedy films. Recently in an interview with ANI, Rohit Shetty spoke about how he had to request rapper and music composer Honey Singh to change a line from the superhit song Lungi Dance from the 2013 film Chennai Express. Shetty suggested this change so that the song could become more family-friendly. In an interview with ANI, Shetty revealed that even as Lungi Dance went on to become a massive hit, this song was added last minute in the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer film.

Shetty said, “Honey and Shah Rukh met and Shah Rukh called me to ask if I can hear a song. I heard it and it was superb! The only thing I had requested Honey back then, because of my audience, was to change the line ‘Coconut mein Vodka mila ke’, I didn’t want that. So he changed it to ‘Coconut mein lassi mila ke’ and said, ‘Main isse zyada shareef nahi ho sakta aapke liye! (I can’t be more innocent than this for you!)”

The filmmaker added that this change “worked” and the song became popular amongst kids. He added, “Even Shah Rukh has that family audience. All his films are loved by families. I am particular that my films should be enjoyed by families. So even in my OTT show, there is no nudity, sex scenes. There are two abuses, that also said by the cops.” Shetty has recently made his OTT debut with the Amazon Prime Video series Indian Police Force, which has Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty, and Vivek Oberoi in lead roles.

In a conversation with ANI Shetty said that despite his successful track record he credits most of his success to luck. He said, “I believe luck is very important, blessings are important. It is not your talent. Talent is there, everyone is working hard. I know my popularity, I am aware of it and will not shy from saying that but at the same time, I also know that I am not that great director.”

The Golmaal series hitmaker said, “I am not someone who made ‘Lagaan,’ I am not someone who made ‘Rang De Basanti’, I am not someone who made ‘3 Idiots’, I am not someone who has made ‘Sholay’ or ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. I know that I am very popular…I know that people love me a lot and I know because I am lucky. So how I can give it back is by whatever I do for society or I can work hard for my films. At the end of the day, all I can say is I worked hard as I could.. and I worked hard not only for myself but also for the love of the people.”
