The young woman, who had jumped off a 40-foot-high elevated platform of New Delhi’s Akshardham Metro station in a suicide bid on Thursday, has succumbed to her injuries. Doctors at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital — where the woman was admitted — said that she received multiple fractures on her back and leg due to the fall, leading to her death. At around 8-9 pm, she was declared dead by the doctors.
The woman who hailed from Punjab was reported to be deaf and mute.
Earlier, a shocking video of the woman standing on the edge of platform No. 2 at around 7:30 am had emerged with CISF personnel deployed at the metro station trying to dissuade her from taking the extreme step.
Another CISF team with the help of local civil employees had even arranged for a blanket to catch her in case she decides to jump, Assistant Inspector General, CISF, said in a statement.
The hair-raising video of the incident shows the woman jumping from the ledge and getting caught on a blanket stretched by CISF personnel and other people present there.

The CISF statement had earlier said, “Due to the severity of the fall, she sustained severe injuries but her life has been saved. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where she is under treatment.”
