From Alastair Cook to Scott Edwards: All Five Wickets Taken By Virat Kohli in His ODI Career - WATCH
Wicketkeeper KL Rahul deserved much credit for Virat Kohli’s fifth ODI wicket.

Virat Kohli claimed the fifth ODI wicket of his career when he got rid of Netherlands captain Scott Edwards during India’s last league match in the ongoing World Cup on Sunday. A 400-plus score in the first innings enabled captain Rohit Sharma to test those players, who will be able to serve as India’s sixth bowler if the situation demands. Apart from Kohli, batters like Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit himself rolled their arms in Bengaluru. Among them, only Kohli and Rohit could achieve success as a bowler. Overwhelmed by Kohli’s maiden World Cup wicket, a fan took to X and dropped videos of his wickets in ODI cricket on a thread.

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who was known for his out-of-the-box strategies, often used Virat Kohli as a bowler and the decision had brought positive results on multiple occasions. It was in 2011 when Kohli grabbed his very first ODI wicket during a tour of England. In the fifth ODI in Cardiff, Kohli castled Alastair Cook with a baffling delivery. The then-English captain was quite settled at the crease and had already reached his fifty.

Virat Kohli fetched his second ODI wicket in the same year on home soil, with England once again being the opponents. This time, opener Craig Kieswetter fell victim to Kohli during a high-scoring clash in Mohali. While attempting to play an outside-off delivery, Kieswetter dragged the ball inside and ended up losing the leg stump.

Whenever Virat Kohli took on the bowling responsibility, he always got a big wicket under his belt. In 2013, Kohli sent off Quinton de Kock during an ODI against South Africa in Johannesburg. De Kock was looking unstoppable in the match. He had scored 135 runs off 121 balls before Kohli grabbed a brilliant catch of his own bowling to dismiss the Proteas opener.

A year later, Virat Kohli got the better of former New Zealand batter Brendon McCullum during an ODI match in Wellington. McCullum came to bat on the back of a solid start from the top order. He had scored 23 off 18 balls before Kohli trapped him for a catch at the extra cover with a slower delivery. However, India endured a disappointing 87-run defeat in the game.

Wicketkeeper KL Rahul deserved much credit for Virat Kohli’s fifth ODI wicket. Scott Edwards misjudged the line of the ball, which was pitched way outside the leg stump. The Dutch captain edged the ball, with Rahul completing a commendable reflex catch behind the wickets.
