Bihar Int Nirmata Sangh (BINS), a brick kiln owners’ association, has volunteered to construct toilets for girls in state-run secondary and higher secondary schools in the state.
The association has already constructed toilets in schools in Katihar, Madhepura, West and East Champaran, Begusarai and Saran districts.
“The primary objective behind our initiative is to create a safe and secure environment for girl students in their schools. We want our daughters not to drop out due to lack of toilets.

“We will build toilets in 450 schools across the state. The construction will be completed in the next three-four months. We have sent our proposal to the education department and the Women and Child Development Corporation (WDC),” BINS president Murari Kumar told PTI.
Welcoming the initiative, WDC chairperson-cum-managing director Harjot Kaur Bamhrah said that BINS is constructing the toilets under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
“Besides, the WDC, in association with the education department, is installing sanitary pad dispensers in the schools. Also, a scheme is in place since 2016 under which girls are given Rs 300 each for maintaining menstrual hygiene,” she said.
Dipak Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of the education department, said that a proposal has been received from BINS in this regard and that he has asked education officers to provide a list of schools in their respective districts where construction or renovation of toilets for girl students is required.
“This initiative of BINS deserves appreciation,” he said.
