New Delhi: In another strong attack on Anna Hazare and his team, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, in a meeting with the Congress General Secretaries said that Anna's campaign needs to be tackled electorally.
She told the Congress General Secretaries that they must ensure that the Congress wins in Punjab, Uttarakhand and do well in Uttar Pradesh.
She told them that this would be the people's answer to Hazare's campaign. "Congress' win in the Assembly polls will be a befitting answer to Anna Hazare," Sonia said in the meeting.
Sonia Gandhi's stand on the Lokpal Bill has galvanised the Congress as the UPA aggressively pushed for its own version of the Bill.
Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid defended the way the Government aggressively pushed for its own version of the Lokpal Bill after Congress President Sonia Gandhi gave a war call.
Speaking exclusively to IBN7, Khurshid likened Sonia Gandhi to a General, calling the party foot soldiers.
Last week, Sonia Gandhi had come out strongly in defence of the UPA government and criticised the Opposition and Team Anna over the Lokpal and other bills.
"We are ready for the fight over the Lokpal and Women's Reservation Bill," Sonia had said.
Taking a strong stand on the Lokpal Bill, she had said, "The Lokpal Bill has been passed by the Cabinet. The Opposition will have lots of things to say, they should accept suggestions of the Government. Team Anna should also accept it."
Anna Hazare has rejected the Lokpal Bill tabled by the government in the Lok Sabha on Thursday and has said that he will campaign in all five poll bound states - Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Punjab and Goa.
He will also fast on December 27, 28 and 29 at Mumbai's Azad Maidan and has called for a jail bharo agitation from December 30.
