Bhopal: Proceedings in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly were disrupted on Monday with the BJP demanding an apology from Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia for disrespecting Dalits.
A couple of days ago, BJP legislator Gopilal Jatav inaugurated a trauma centre in Ashoknagar which Scindia was supposed to inaugurate. Scindia got the centre approved while he was a minister in the UPA government.
Jatav’s action made Scindia’s supporters angry. Amit Tanware, a Congress activist, demanded that the trauma centre be “purified” with gangajal and re-inaugurated by Scindia. BJP said this statement is gross disrespect of its MLA who represents Dalits.
On Monday, as proceedings begun in the Assembly, BJP legislator Rameshwar Sharma raised the issue and was joined by his partymen. They did not allow the House to function and sought an apology from Scindia and staged a walk out.
Congress retorted by raising the issue of minister Narottam Mishra who has been disqualified by Election Commission in a paid news case. Interestingly, Mishra has neither been disqualified as MLA nor has he been axed from the cabinet.
Talking to reporters outside the Assembly, Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh alleged that the BJP talks about Dalits and but has no respect for the Constitution inked by a Dalit icon BR Ambedkar as they haven’t removed ‘tainted’ Mishra.
The fight reached the streets as BJP workers burnt effigies of Scindia at several places, including Bhopal. Congress also plans to burn effigies of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP state chief Nandkumar Singh Chauhan across the state on Tuesday.
