BJP says it must be invited to form Karnataka govt
Party claims it is about to get a simple majority in state Assembly.

New Delhi: The BJP claims it is about to get a simple majority in Karnataka and it would be a "gross constitutional impropriety" if it is not invited to form the government in the southern state.

Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said trends show his party would cross the 100 mark in the 224- member assembly.

Another senior party leader, Prakash Javadekar, said he was confident of forming government even if it finished only as the single largest party in the 224-member Assembly.

"One thing is clear that we will be the single largest party," BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said here. "We are improving from last time."

Asked how the BJP would form a government if it did not get a majority in the 224-member house, he said: "There is no problem for us. There are enough people who are not from the JD-S and the Congress to support us."
