Ranchi: The BJP state unit's Committee for Elections will meet on Wednesday to ponder over whether to field a candidate for the May 3 Rajya Sabha elections from Jharkhand.
"The party's Committee for Elections will meet tomorrow to discuss both on Rajya Sabha elections and Hatia assembly bypoll," senior party leader and a member of the committee, Raghuvar Das said.
The Hatia assembly constituency fell vacant after the death of Congress MLA Gopal Nath Sahadeo in 2010.
Asked whether the BJP would put up candidate for RS seat this time, Das said whatever decision the committee would take would be forwarded to the central leadership for its final decision.
The meeting of the committee is scheduled at 4 pm, Das said.
The BJP had reversed its stand at the last minute and voted for JMM candidate Sanjiv Kumar in the March 30 RS polls, which was countermanded by the Election Commission following allegations of horse trading.
On Tuesday the EC announced May 3 as the fresh date for elections for two RS seats from Jharkhand.
