Eye on polls, Congress inducts Gandhi crown prince
For party workers, Rahul's induction is reason enough to celebrate.

New Delhi: The Gandhi crown prince is finally has finally been accepted into the Congress fold. Rahul Gandhi has finally taken a formal post in the organisation - the fifth generation of his family to be there.

The brief is clear - Rahul will have the power but not be thrown into the rigours of politics. Yet Rahul's four-year-old career has been about taking cautious steps.

Even when supervising UP elections for his party, Rahul did not accept a formal designation. So, when Congress fared badly in the state, the blame did not come on him.

Instead, even Rahul said that the organisation was weak.

As General Secretary in-charge of Youth Affairs, Rahul will not be held responsible for his party's performance.

But for party workers, Rahul's induction is reason enough to celebrate.

Rahul may be the first among faces but some other younger faces have been accommodated.

Jitin Prasada and Priya Dutt have become secretaries.

Some responsibilities have been thrust upon others also – a clear signal that party is going for the polls.

Unlike Sonia Gandhi whose entry into politics was shaped by destiny, for Rahul, it has been well thought out. But his challenge begins now. His party is at cross roads.

What's your reaction?
