Lucknow: Suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur on Friday described as "a bundle of lies" the FIR registered against him by vigilance department in connection with disproportionate assets case and said he and his activist wife were not given chance to present their side of story.
Thakur said the NGOs run by his activist wife are separate legal entities of which he is not even an office bearer, yet they are being illegally clubbed with him.
"Neither me, nor my wife or family members, were given any opportunity by the vigilance establishment or the Lokayukta to explain the facts presented by them," Thakur said.
The vigilance department had filed the DA case in Gomti Nagar police station on Wednesday night. Thakur said the FIR talks not only of his alleged disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 98.12 lakh but it also accuses him of having invested in various NGOs like National RTI Forum and IRDS.
"The FIR says that based on the Lokayukta recommendations and the report by DM Lucknow along with the Vigilance Enquiry, it was found that Thakur earned a total of Rs 1.17 crore while the value of his assets and his personal expenses came at Rs 2.16 crore making the value of disproportionate assets at Rs 98.12 lakh," he said.
As per the FIR, Thakur could not satisfactorily explain this discrepancy and hence finding him prima-facie guilty under section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, FIR under section 13(2) of the Act is being registered, which shall be investigated by Vigilance Establishment in compliance of state government order dated September 15.
Thakur had on Thursday sent a letter to the vigilance establishment requesting them to provide a copy of the FIR registered against him and report of the open inquiry conducted against him.
