Gowda blames BJP as coalition govt falls
JD(S) says its intention was to go to the people for a fresh mandate.

New Delhi: The JD(S) on Saturday attacked the BJP right, left and centre for the current situation in Karnataka, claiming that a vicious campaign launched by the latter led to the political crisis.

Blaming the BJP squarely for the parting of ways, JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda said his party had to take the extraordinary step to make the people of Karnataka the 'final arbitrator' of the situation.

"The BJP has humiliated us through the media," JD(S) spokesman Danish Ali told a press conference in New Delhi. "Never before in the history of independent India a CM has been charged by his Cabinet colleague," Gowda ponited out.

The Political Affairs Committee of the party recommended not to transfer power to the BJP keeping in mind the overwhelming sentiments in the state in favour of the party.

Interestingly, the political resolution of the Political Affairs Committee says the CM will not face the House, which indicates that Kumaraswamy will not seek any floor test.

Saying that the people of Karnataka will be the final arbitrator of the current crisis, Deve Gowda said the aim of his party was to go for people's mandate. He claimed that there is no question of alliance with any party after the elections.

At the same time, Gowda however squarely blamed the BJP for pushing the state to yet another election. "The solution to the present situation was not in my hands, but in the hands of the BJP, which has ruled the country for six years," Gowda said.

"The BJP is afraid of JD(S)'s good showing in the recent local bodies elections," He claimed.

The party also made it clear that there is no possibility of JD(S) going for an alliance with any other party (read the Congress) and that the 'intention' of the party is to go for a fresh mandate.

Gowda said the recent elections have proved beyond doubt that the JD(S) has maintained its secular credentials. "Whether I can be trusted has to be decided by the people and the nation," he said.

"The JD(S) leaders have worked hard and all credit goes for the success of the JD(S) in the recent municipal polls should go to them," Gowda said.

Gowda also accused the Congress leaders of trying to destabalise his party. "All those people who wanted to destabilise the JD(S) govt are responsible for the mid-term polls," he said.
