New Delhi: The Congress on Friday has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being double standard over his statement in UK that he will not tolerate intolerance in India.
Speaking to the reporters, Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma, on the second day of PM's visit to the UK, said, "What he spoke in London was his characteristic, doublespeak and hypocrisy. He is so thick-skinned and hidebound that he refuses to listen to voices of sanity and words of caution. I am sure this evening he will be melodramatic and will say things which we find objectionable."
"The PM's statement is full of hypocrisy. He said intolerance cannot be tolerated. There can't be a greater contradiction. His thought and statement veered around I, me and myself, Shri Narendra Modi. We completely reject his claim that he has restored India’s credibility," he said.
Claiming that intolerance is rising under NDA rule, Congress spokesperson said, "PM must control RSS and his ministers. PM Modi is responsible for tarnishing India's image. What he spoke in London was his characteristic doublespeak and he is so thick-skinned that he refuses to listen to voices of sanity."
"Parliament will have the last say and PM should make serious amends to ensure the pluralistic character of this country - which is multi-lingual, multi-religious," he said while questioning what prevents PM to take action against his leaders for making objectionable comments and for instigating communal disharmony in the country.
