Jayalalithaa talks tough, condemns diesel price hike
Jayalalithaa also appealed PM Narendra Modi to roll back the decision to raise diesel prices every month.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and former NDA ally Jayalalithaa on Sunday condemned the Centre for hiking diesel prices by 50 paise just days after coming into rule.

In a statement, Jayalalithaa also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rollback the decision. Asking NDA not to follow on the footsteps of the previous UPA government, the Tamil Nadu CM said, "Centre must not follow policies of UPA government and should not allow oil marketing companies to decide fuel prices."

Jayalalithaa who had earlier in the week met PM Modi for the first time after he was sworn in to power also appealed to him to change fuel pricing policy.

Diesel prices were on Saturday hiked by 50 paise a litre, excluding state levies. The monthly hike in price came after several rounds discussions that the new Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held with state-owned oil firms on continuing with the reform initiated by the UPA government.
