Mayawati in fix as CBI submits report
Ahead of the Assembly polls in UP, Mayawati is in a tight spot as the CBI files its final report in the Taj Corridor Case.

New Delhi: Ahead of the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, former chief minister Mayawati is in a tight spot as the CBI moves court with its final report in the Taj Corridor Case.

The CBI finalised its report and submitted all revelant material and documents to the designated court in Lucknow on Wednesday.

CNN-IBN has details of the report which clearly points fingers at Mayawati's role in the Rs 175 crore scam.

According to evidence available with the CBI, the Mayawati government didn't take any approval from the cabinet committee on economic affairs before giving the go-ahead to Taj Corridor. Apart from this, Rs 175 crores was given to the contractor without any detailed project study.

If the Allahabad High Court accepts the report, it can ask the CBI to procure permission to prosecute Mayawati and three other IAS officers allegedly involved in the scam.

But with the Uttar Pradesh elections around the corner, there is a question mark on whether the CBI will get sanction from the governor to prosecute Mayawati before the elections.

A Supreme Court directive on November 27 last year had quashed the closure report of the CBI against Mayawati.
